On a recent trip to ‘Glassex’ the annual industry exhibition (2006) held in Birmingham we were keen to try and find new innovative products to add to the range of products and services we currently offer.
The product which interested us the most was a heating system designed specifically for domestic conservatories from a company called ‘Heattend’. Unlike conventional electric heaters which use convected heat these new electric heaters emit radiant heat which has several advantages.
As you can see from the photos the heaters can be wall mounted and can be controlled Independently from a central heating system in the house. The heaters do need to be fitted next to a power point so they can be plugged in. Within five minuets of the heater being turned on it will make a difference to the room.
We are finding more and more people are concerned with loosing energy in their home. Radiant heaters reduce the amount of heat loss through the glass and roof and there is no energy losses from exhaust gasses.
The heaters are maintenance free and run at a comparable cost to conventional energy sources.

Our microthermic radiant panel heaters, like the sun, generate radiant heat. It is without exception the healthiest and most effective method of creating comfort. Radiant heat warms people, walls and objects so you can feel the warmth equally around your environment.
Many of the conventional heaters heat by convection. Convection heat warms the air and as a result the heat is distributed unevenly because the heated air rises and the warmth stays near the ceiling where it is needed the least. Also as a result of the air being heated the heat escapes where the air escapes, meaning the heat is lost through the windows, doors, vents and especially the ceiling, and this process can also produce undesirable marks on walls. Radiant heaters heat the walls, the furniture and objects which in turn radiate heat back into the room. Radiant heat does not pass through glass and therefore windows are no longer a heating problem.
Radiant heat works almost instantly. Within minutes the heater plaque is working at 100% output compared to oil filled heaters, which are very slow and can take up to an hour to reach 100% output. A convector heater element will operate in much the same time as the radiant plaque, however, the time taken to achieve a desired comfort level in a given room can be considerably longer.
The difference in temperature between the floor and the ceiling is less, so you do not lose heat through the ceiling.
