Conservatories

Standard Specification

All our fully bespoke conservatories are available in a choice of finishes to suit your personal preference or to complement your property. Our PVCU conservatories are available in:

  • White
  • Woodgrain - Rosewood (or Rosewood on White)
  • Woodgrain - Light Oak (or Light Oak on White)
  • RAL Colours – Such as Green, Cream or Black

Our timber and aluminium conservatories are available in any RAL colour finish.

All our conservatories are bespoke (made to measure), we don’t use any modular or set sizes so we can tailor your chosen style to your specific dimensions.

We don’t look to “sell” you a conservatory, we employ no salesmen!!! We take a lot of pride in our approach to sales offering detailed written quotations including PHOTO CAD drawings and product information so you have everything you need to make an informed decision in your own time. We recommend visiting our conservatory village to get a real feel for the products, size and options available. Many customers enjoy a visit to see a conservatory we have previously installed at a customers house or even a factory visit.

We can take on as little or as much work as you require, while most of our customers would prefer we do the complete build including the internal finishing some customers build there own base or prefer to handle the internal works such as tiling and plastering. We are very fortunate to have a dedicated team who take pride in their work. Many members of the team have been with us for a substantial time, one of our builders recently commented that he had built over 600 bases in his time with Lifestyle.

Typically our conservatory service would include:

  • Advise on style, size, specification and roof glazing
  • A detailed written quotation including PHOTO CAD drawings and product information
  • A possible meeting at our showroom or a previous customers property
  • Arranging for a planning application if required
(Typically most conservatories do not require planning permission and since October 2008 the planning regulations have changed to make it easier for people to build, there are several criteria to meet but basically in a detached property you can extend to 4 meters in projection and in a semi-detached property 3 meters in projection without requiring a planning application – a member of our team can advise further after viewing your property)
  • Preparing the proposed location; moving drains, taps or lights etc
  • Construction of the footings, base and walls
  • Installation of the roof and frames
    (Lead flashing and window boards)
  • Plastering
  • Floor tiling
  • Electrics
  • Skirting boards
  • Heating (Electric radiant heaters, radiators, under floor heating)
  • Air Conditioning
  • Conservatory Blinds

We believe it’s the overall package that sets Lifestyle apart from our approach to design and sales, the combination of products we use and the skilled team we have assembled over the years. All the above is covered by our comprehensive guarantee and is backed by The Consumer Protection Association’s ten year insurance backed guarantee. We are proud winners of The Consumer Protection Association’s Customer Care Award for achieving 100% satisfied customer in a full years installations

Every conservatory we install in designed to meet our customer’s individual requirements, we often joke we have never done two the same so call in to our showroom or call our free phone number 0800 783 6502 to see how we can help or advise.

With a simple turn of the handle the gearbox activates up to four pairs of high strength, ‘mushroom’ cams, simultaneously driving each cam into a double-sided security striker from opposite directions. This double action locking means that any attempt to force one cam out of its closed position merely forces the opposing cam deeper into their strikers, strengthening rather than weakening the system’s security. At each end of the window sash a “shoot bolt” engages into the side of the frame preventing the sash from bring jemmied out of position. All Lifestyle windows are fitted with an additional security catch positioned along the rear of all opening vents, providing additional protection for the weakest point of the window. This gives all our opening vents a total of seven – eight locking points on every opening vent. All window handles include a key locking facility but lock automatically when closed, a simple push of a button unlocks the handles. All outward opening vents can be locked in a “night vent” position. All doors are fitted with a hook locking system which incorporated two hook locks, a dead bolt and two cams, on French doors two shoot bolt locks are also added at the top and bottom of the door / For Added security all doors are fitted with an anti-drill door cylinder. Crucially all our windows and doors are fully reinforced with galvanised steel to ensure maximum performance of locking systems.

Modern PVCU systems require very little maintenance to maintain there appearance and performance. The only regular maintenance which is required is every six months lubricate the locking systems and hinges fitted to the windows and doors. WD40 or a silicone spray is suitable. This will ensure the ironmongery will out last the guarantees.

  • “K2” – Conservatory Roof System BS 818-2
  • Structural aluminium roof design BS 818
  • Tested for wind loading BS 6399-2
  • Tested for imposed roof loads BS 6399 – 3
  • Decorative external rafter covers
  • Authentic cresting and finial
  • Deep flow Ogee rainwater system with internal brackets
  • BBA Approved

This roof system utilises a solid ridge and ring beam section with no built in ventilation – we feel this is very important as the small benefits in summer of a permanent vent are far outweighed by the disadvantages of permanent holes in the roof in winter when the idea is to conserve heat We also offer the K2 range of individual decorative internal ring beam finishes – these can be viewed on-line either on our web-site or the K2 Homeowners web-site.

A popular request is to fit the K2 conservatory roof system with no final or cresting, which is possible, however I would encourage you to consider the may look unfinished without the cresting and finial.

  • All our foil finished conservatories are fitted with aluminium external roof rafter covers as standard to prevent the covers from warping or twisting.
  • All wood-grain finished products are sprayed with a silicone spray to protect the grain finish.
  • Stepped Lead Flashing.
  • Fitted into the mortar line of the brickwork and finished with lead mate sealant.
  • The lead flashing is fitted behind the external rafter cover of the wall plate for a neater finish.

All frames are “FULLY REINFORCED” with galvanised steel (not aluminium) to ensure maximum performance of the locking system and structural durability. Different elevations are coupled together using structural reinforced bay pole and corner post assembly sections.

Roof wall plate and window/door frames are fixed in position with 100mm and 140mm ‘New’ sleeveless frame anchors. Window, doors and roof ring beam section are screwed together using self tapping screws. All sealed in position using high performance technical grade neutral cure silicone. The conservatory will be sealed to the house/brick base using brown silicone.

  • 450 – 500 mm Square Concrete footings – or suitable standard for local site conditions, if ground is soft we will dig further or reinforce with steel, on a sandy base we can expect to dig approx 700mm down.
  • Bride any under-ground drains
  • Compacted Road stone / Blinded with sand.
  • Damp proof membrane.
  • Damp Course.
  • 100mm solid concrete floor.
  • Insulated base and walls.
  • Finished floor level will run through with the top of the house DPC level.
  • All waste materials and excavated ground will be cleared from site.
  • No provisions have been included for any landscaping on completion of the conservatory.

Our range of window boards are manufactured to the highest standards using only top quality materials. A high pressure laminate gives a surface which will last for years and is scratch, heat and moisture resistant, this is bonded onto P3 MR chipboard which is compensated with laminate E backing, the back edge and the underside joint is sealed with a water resistant film (Available in a choice of colours).

Low level aluminium threshold to French doors for easier access (Reduces the amount of ‘step’ at the base of the door).

On large conservatories or conservatories with a glass roof we always manufacture each elevation of the conservatory in more than one frame and fit a 16mm weight loading aluminium connector between the adjoining frames – this makes for a much stronger/sturdier frame construction – its not just Lifestyle that can see the difference our customers have commented on how solid this makes each elevation feel when opening and closing windows and doors.

Steve and Amanda Brown, Ilkeston

I would like to take the opportunity to you and everyone at lifestyle to say a massive thank you for the lovely service we received on the planning and work to our magnificent conservatory. More...
