Styles:
- Single Door
- French Door
- Sliding Patio
- Side panels / Top Lights
As
with the windows styles there many different
styles of doors to choose from and they
can be chosen to complement the style
of your home or add individual flare.
All of which can be fitted using a combination
of glass, moulded panels and integrated
frame section.
Most PVCu single doors are
fitted using moulded in-fill panels. However
we are increasing finding that cruciform
doors and half cruciform doors are becoming
more popular. These doors can also be
glazed with a vast number of decorative
glass designs which are available.
The most popular design
of door for a patio is a French door.
A French door has many advantages, it
can be used as a single door for easy
access and when both doors are open provide
easy access for furniture. Outward opening
doors is a popular choice so there is
no detriment to the floor space of the
room when the doors are open We install
all our French doors with handles on both
doors for ease of use, all are fitted
with heavy duty adjustable flag hinges
and high security locking.
Tilt & Slide doors are
extremely effective doors. When open the
door slides behind a fixed panel allowing
permanent access without a door leaf to
consider. The great advantage a tilt &
slide patio door has is when opened in
the tilt position it becomes a large opening
vent providing additional ventilation
for the room.
In-Line
sliding patio doors are an extremely smooth
operation and a very popular design choice.
However to install a sliding patio door
in many cases the plaster has to be chopped
back in order to fit the door, this is
because unlike tilt & slide patio
doors the sliding door sits on a track
permanently set behind the fixed panel.
This means that the depth of the outer-frame
is over twice the size of a normal window
or door frame.
By fitting flat panelling
into the bottom section of a door it is
possible to fit a cat flap to allow access
for pets if the conservatory covers the
original access point.
A popular request on PVCu
doors is for them to be fitted with a
low threshold. This can be achieved in
two ways. The first is to weld a low level
PVCu frame threshold in the bottom of
the door, which allows for a slightly
smaller threshold. The most effective
design is to manufacture the door with
a aluminium threshold which has a small
up-stand of only 20mm, making it ideal
for easy access and disabled access. There
are several factors that can affect weather
or not this design can be fitted without
some additional alterations to the aperture.
The aluminium threshold design is easier
to achieve on conservatories because we
can design the conservatory to suit the
low level threshold and its constraints.
We supply three cut
keys with all our doors, these keys can
be copied at any local lock smith for
additional members of the family. If you
wanted to reduce the volume of keys in
you property we can supply you with a
“Key A Like” system where
one key operates all the door locks in
the house.
Composite design doors
are a relatively new product although they been
available for several years within the industry.
A composite door is manufactured to be more like
a timber door with the opening door leaf being one
piece rather than a frame and either an in fill panel
of glazing. They available with many of the same
decorative glass features as “normal” PVCu doors but
the thing which sets them apart from timber doors is
that they can easily being manufactured in different
colours. We find it very effective to have the desired
colour on the outside and then a white finish on the inside,
this gives a more neutral and light fell to the hall,
porch, etc.
On a wood-grain effect composite door
the frame would be supplied in a suitable wood-grain
finish to match, if a colour such as red, blue or green
were selected the outer frame would typically be supplied
in white, the outer frame can be supplied to match the
colour of the door but this has quite an impact on the cost
of the door in relation to the benefits.
The only down side to composite doors is due
to the complex nature of how they are manufactured they are
substantially more expensive than a “normal” PVCu door.
However this price difference does not seem to be substantial
enough to dissuade people who have there heart set upon this
style of entrance door.
