An extremely popular alternative to a translucent conservatory roof is either a traditional tiled or tile effect conservatory roof. In addition to its attractive external appearance this ‘Sun Room’ design completely blocks out the light and heat from the sun and also has excellent thermal properties for enjoying the space in the winter months. Internally the roofs typically have a plastered finish which when painted actually gives a lovely light feeling to the space and make it feel more ‘like a room’.Alternatively it would be possible to timber board or PVCu clad the inside of the roof. Roof vents can be installed into the roof to give additional ventilation and allow a little more light into the space. Tiled conservatory roofs are a versatile product that can be manufactured to suit most existing conservatory designs including box valley gutters and actually valleys in the tiled roof such as P shape conservatories. Over the next ten years we anticipate these roofs becoming common place in the modern home as a genuine alternative to the conventional conservatory design. The three three types of tiled conservatory roof project are; simply replacing an existing conservatory roof, replacing a conservator roof along with the window and door frames and a completely fresh tiled roof conservatory build. Even when only replacing the conservatory roof there we have additional support mullions available to support the additional weight on some older conservatories meaning this product can be used on almost any existing conservatory design.
If you are considering installing a tile effect design onto an existing conservatory the construction of the existing side elevations will need to be assessed and in some cases replaced if they do not meet our standards. Below are some example images of a SUPALITE retro fit supporting mullions to support the weight of the roof. These mullions are a cost effective way to support the weight of the roof, they are primarily used on retro fit tiled roofs however depending of the design they can be used in complete new build extensions too although brick pillars are a popular alternative for new extensions.
SUPALITE U Values: A low U value of 0.18 which meets with local building control The Structure: A lightweight aluminium sub structure is used to form the roof Finish: Choose from slate and tile finishes in different colour Durability: The lightweight tiles come complete with a 25 year manufacturer’s guarantee but have a life expectancy of in excess of 40 years .This roof system has been extensively installed in Canada, USA and Australia.Tiled conservatory roofs are not the cheapest way to build a conservatory or retro-fit an old conservatory with new products but tiled roofs do create a very different space and help the conservatory to be a genuinely usable living space all year round.
