Window Hinges:
Opening vents in UPVC windows
are not hung on a traditional pivot hinge
that you would see on a timber window.
UPVC windows are hung using a friction
stay style of hinge.
This
type of hinge has several advantages;
It is not a pivot design so this means
a top opening vent can be opened to a
specific position and the vent will stay
open in that position with out additional
support
Due to the operation of
the friction stay, when the vent is opened
the whole vent opens which allows the
back of the opening vent to be cleaned
from the inside.
Fire Escape Hinges:
Friction Stay are also manufactured
to meet building regulations for fire
escape windows. These are fitted onto
a side hung opening vent fitted with an
egress fire escape hinge. This hinge allows
the vent to open fully without the restraints
of a normal window hinge. There is also
the facility to move the vent across when
open to allow easy access for cleaning
whilst remaining in the room.
Child
Restrictor Hinges:
To feel totally secure in
a home with small children friction stays
can be specified with a child restriction
catch. The friction stay has a catch similar
to a fire escape hinge which, when the
vent is opened will restrict the opening
until the catch is released and the vent
can then be opened fully.
Tilt & Turn
Hinges:
We use the very latest hinges
on tilt & turn vents. We are using
the new internal hinges instead of the
original face fit hinges that are still
mostly used. While this is more attractive
it also allows more room on the face of
the outer-frame that is concealed behind
the plaster line meaning there is less
need for a frame extensions.
